Demko Week-to-Week for Canucks with Lower-Body Injury
Goaltender Could Miss Multiple Games
Vancouver, BC -
The Vancouver Canucks will be without starting goaltender Thatcher Demko for an extended period of time. The team announced on April 23rd that Demko will be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
Demko suffered the injury during the Canucks' 4-3 overtime win over the Calgary Flames on April 21st. He was forced to leave the game in the second period after colliding with Flames forward Elias Lindholm.
The Canucks have not provided a specific timetable for Demko's return. However, the team is expected to provide an update on his status later this week.
In the meantime, the Canucks will likely turn to backup goaltender Spencer Martin to start in Demko's absence. Martin has a record of 12-15-3 with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage this season.
The Canucks are currently in a battle for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. They are two points behind the Edmonton Oilers for the second wild card spot.
Demko's injury is a major blow to the Canucks' playoff hopes. The 26-year-old has been one of the team's most consistent players this season, posting a record of 28-22-6 with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.
The Canucks will need to find a way to replace Demko's production in order to stay in the playoff hunt.
